Original vs. Reborn - V1.0

Sexbound Reborn introduces many changes to the original Sexbound API, aiming to give it more content and meaning as a standalone mod aswell as increasing realism and depth of its mechanics. Major changes include:

Reworked Actor & Position Logic

Original Sexbound has severe problems with outdated mechanics that were flawed by design. One of these mechanics is actor management. The mod was initially designed for two actors only - actor three, and potentially more, was just an afterthought. Sexbound Reborn fixes this. The whole actor management system has been rewritten to be dynamic and fully support three - and potentially more - actors in every aspect. Role sorting, pregnancy logic, sextalk, ...

The same goes for positions. New filter mechanics ensure positions are only available when it makes sense, idling has been turned into a dedicated state that can be toggled anytime, new transition animations. While not every of these changes might be directly apparent, behind the scenes everything is running a fair bit smoother.

Dynamic Body Traits

Another big oversight in Original Sexbound was the "futanari" system; An afterthought adding the option to put a dick onto a woman by hardcoding the mechanic in half of the places it needs to be. For a while, many people have wished for more sub-genders to add. Now, the waiting is over. Sexbound Reborn removed the old futanari plugin and replaced it by the new dynamic sub-gender plugin, based on dynamic body traits. Written with simplicity in use and maximum scalability in mind, now everyone can add whatever sub-gender they want and change body traits to their liking.

Enhanced Pregnancies

Besides patching holes in the logic, Sexbound Reborn most notably changes the entire pregnancy system. Multi-actor compatibility, proper scripted climax mechanics, realistic ovulation cycle, more immersive pregnancy progression, more immersive birthing mechanics, fixed in-game time progression, fixed data consistency, more family planning items and nore impactful consequences for careless actions - with way more yet to come.

And furthermore many, many detail changes here, there and everywhere aiming to make Sexbound a better experience overall. Look into the full changelog for more information.


V1.1

The first major update for Sexbound Reborn, focussing on bringing even more life the to the universe - literally, as this update focusses on pregnancies and everything around them even more. Major changes include:

A Semblance of Family

The Starbound universe learns the meaning of family - by increasing the means and dangers for creating one. Proper multi-baby pregnancies, reworked birthing process for players, NPCs tracking their parents and mechanics to track and punish incest. Also, how about NPCs addressing their family with different dialogue? How about those kids you press out actually being kids with their own dialogue aswell? That is, if you aren't stricken by the dreaded stillborn chance.

Baby Variety

SBR 1.1 tries itself at something people always lamented missing: Baby genetics. Babies now try to generate with a color palette (as far as available for this species) resembling their parents. Speaking of specis, cross-breeding mechanics have also been added, so that two species of parents can create a third species child. But it doesn't stop at species, types also play a big role - since I know many of you love themselves some hot Gleep action. So now the necessary means to fully support different pregnancy types, like e.g. eggs, is given. (Now we have to wait for someone to actually use it...)

Lustbound Returns

Remember that big, beloved mod Lustbound? That adds a shitton of dildos, items and a whole red-light dungeon? With all it's little addon gimmicks? Yeah, exactly that one - the one that was so old and broken even for OG SxB you needed an inofficial "updooted" version! And on top of that, another patch to use it with SBR!

Yeah, that mod is back - and here to stay! As a fully integrated part of SBR 1.1. No need for snooping around threads of inofficial fixes, no need to install and maintain another patch! Just use Lustbound's other addons with SBR 1.1!

And furthermore alot of fixes, detail changes and reworks to make the Sexbound experience better and smoother. Look into the full changelog for more information.


V1.2

The second major update for Sexbound Reborn - this time focussing on the overall look and sound of things. Because, you know, actors got some enhancements and sextalk was fully reworked from scratch. Here is an overview over the big changes:

Let's talk

As mentioned above, the Sextalk plugin as been completely revamped. What does that mean? Well, it means that a normal human should now be easily capable of understanding, editing and adding to the underlying dialog files to add all the thirsty dirty talk they want. Actors now properly take turns when talking and can even display dialog with their name in it. And, most importantly, dialog can now account for a much bigger variety of scenarios! Different dialog for vaginal and anal, based on the actual genitals your partner has? Custom dialog for pregnancies throughout all sex states? Dialog for the new states "pre-climax" and "post-climax" that SBR introduced? Different dialog while being in heat or doing it to yourself or with a toy? We got you covered!

Look at that

What's that at the horizon? properly animated ears? Floofy wiggling tails? No more problems with detached body parts when flipping the head for the Neki? And did I hear rumors of potential future support for big, chunky, non-humanoid races like Arachne? Why yes, indeed! The animator logic and part building gained an upgrade. There are now two more layers (for ears and tails), aswell as options to move parts around per species to fit different, non-humanoid sizes. That... may not mean anything for you immediately, cause these are just API changes allowing these features to be used by race mode to begin with - but atleast now it's possible! I'm as excited as you are to see someone actually use them. Eventually. Hopefully.

It's getting hot

Even for players! Arousal effect for players are here! Ever wondered how life as an NPC must be, plagued by ever-increasing arousal dictating your life? Now you can! Players now also fully track arousal and get buffs and debuffs based on how pent-up you are. And if you are worried about this being unfair since you need some way to have sex and climax to get rid of it - don't worry, I'm sure masturbation will come soon. Probably. Until then, sextoys exist.

And don't you worry, I certainly did not forget about our furry friends! If a race is defined as using this mechanic, instead of normal arousal effects you will go "into heat" every several days. During this time you get the strongest version of the arousal effect for a long time, as well as (if defined for your race) moan every now and then. Also, naturally, getting rid of heat requires you to actually breed. So start making those babies! Of course, there is an alternative. While you cannot fully get rid of the effects of heat without breeding, you can take a new pill that cuts the duration and strength of the effects of heat in half.

And as usual, alot of fixes all around. Some longstanding ones, some niche ones. Granted, many of the changed and additions in this update may not be immediately apparent to the player - considering they are behind-the-scenes API changes allowing races to do much cooler, funkier stuff; and that requires those races to actually do that cooler, funkier stuff. But this is still a big step forwards, trust me.

An update focusing on reworking the climax system.

  • Rework of the climax build-up mechanics for more immersion and NPC compatibility.
  • Rework of condom mechanics to make them much more useable and valuable.
  • Addition of dedicated vaginal/anal states.
  • Potential addition of pull-out climax (not too likely)
  • Potential rework of sex controls to allow for manual speed control (controls climax build-up)

Other Plans

New Positions

New sex positions are in the works to spice up the horny game. This not only includes new unique positions to do your partner in, but also introduce solo-actor positions (aka. masturbation) and will potentially explore the possibilities of triggering masturbation at will - imagine turning an NPC into a sexnode on the spot via Aphrodite's Bow or Defeat, but on yourself. And without shooting yourself. Probably.

This will also include a rework of old positions and potentially the UI, more clearly separation and controlling two-actor and three-actor positions. That way, edge cases like standing actor 2 requirements will be fixed, and the UI will more clearly communicate difference in positions. This, of course, also allows many other means of customization, as every individual position can have individual settings, allowing for varying animations per variant - if needed.

Of course, adding new positions creates a big problem: Every supported race ever needs to be retrofitted to support these positions. Which, for many, most likely will not happen, as noone is around to maintain them anymore. That's why, upon introducing these new positions, the position management system will once more need a rework to allow positions being excluded based on if an actor's species supports it or not.

The great beyond

For years, modders (including myself) have been struggling with the limitations of Starbound. Many cool ideas are simply not possible, or atleast not feasable, because Starbound doesn't allow thing X or Y. But this has since changed. Starbound is no longer a limitation. Modifications to the base game itself exist a-plenty now. StarExtensions, OpenStarbound, and whatever fork of those has sprung up by now. These allow completely new levels of content.

That's why I, too, started working on a fork of Starbound (StarGlue) aiming at adding new features that allow to greatly benefit Sexbound Reborn. Imagine pregnancy sprites outside of sex. Other lingering changes to how your actual in-world entity looks. Fixing the scaling of NPC kids. Making things much more performant. Allowing varying thrust SFXs. Allowing editing existing entities, so you can alter the player or NPCs without exploding and respawning them. Making boobs another body trait you can change throughout the game. And whatever the future holds.

Of course, this adds a pretty heavy dependency. Also, due to the nature of this type of modification to the source code, one "Alternate Starbound" is incompatible with another. You can only ever have StarExtensions OR OpenStarbound OR StarGlue - and each of those give you different cool features you might want as a user. Ideally, one day all will support the API changes of StarGlue. But until then - or if one of the teams refuses to support these features - ways of making all of this fully optional have to be explored.
