I encountered this bug when adding a role to a User. If we take a look at the update form, the password fields are not required. My assumption is that it should be possible for a admin to change a User, without changing the password.
But now on updating a User, the password field get submitted aswel. So the User will end up with '' as password.

I found this solution.

Walkthrough

The changes in this pull request primarily involve the Password class located in src/Resources/UserResource/Form/Components/Password.php. An additional method call has been introduced in the make method, specifically within the dehydrated method. This new closure checks if the $state is filled, thereby determining if the password field should be dehydrated based on the presence of a value in the state. The overall functionality related to password handling remains intact.

Changes

src/Resources/UserResource/Form/Components/Password.php Updated the make method in the Password class to include a new closure in the dehydrated method that checks if the $state is filled.

Possibly related PRs

  • Update stub to fix password error #14: The changes in this PR involve modifying the dehydrateStateUsing method in the UserResource class, which is related to password handling, similar to the modifications made in the Password class's make method in the main PR.

Poem

In the burrow where passwords hide,
A new check was added, side by side.
If the state is filled, it knows the way,
To keep our secrets safe each day.
Hop along, dear coder, with joy and cheer,
For password fields are now more clear! 🐇✨

22-22: LGTM! This change correctly fixes the empty password issue.

The addition of dehydrated(fn ($state) => filled($state)) ensures that the password field is only processed when it contains a value, preventing the unintended assignment of empty passwords when administrators update other user details. This is a secure implementation that:

  1. Preserves existing passwords when the field is left empty
  2. Only processes the password when explicitly provided
  3. Maintains all security measures (hashing, validation rules, confirmation)
