The Baltimore Sun analyzed data on the ebb and flow of vacant buildings between Feb. 2019 and Oct. 2019 for an Oct. 18, 2019 story titled "Baltimore is furiously knocking down vacant houses — but can’t keep up as new ones go empty".
The Sun's findings and analysis are available in the "analysis" markdown file in this repository: 02_analysis.md
. The data was cleaned and pre-processed prior to analysis. For more information, see 01_processing.md
.
If you'd like to run the code yourself in R, you can download the R Markdown files 01_processing.Rmd
and 02_analysis.Rmd
along with the data in the input
folder. Note the parcel boundaries files were too large to be uploaded into the input
folder; they can be found on the City of Baltimore's Open GIS site.

There are many angles to explore with this data, beyond just the ones we looked into for our story.
