Improved performance and fixed "glow when occluded" and "glow when unoccluded" functionality.

Uh, @Nephyrin, apologies for the ping in advance, but was this PR ever actually read through and resolved outside of this page, or never?

If not, perhaps some closure to this may be in order, should time and resources allow for a proper read-through of the code and final decision on the matter.
