dependency failed to start: container opensearch is unhealthy

Trying to get local dev environment set up on Apple M4 Mac OS Sequoia 15.2, and getting an error related to opensearch.

The app does open up on local port 3000, and I can open it in my browser and navigate around. So not sure how opensearch failing is affecting the app.

Saw some other discussion items related to opensearch, but all it seems before the new sndev setup tool.

Steps to reproduce:

• Fork stacker.news
• Run ./sndev start

Can you share the full logs?

But from just what I can see here, are you sure the opensearch container can bind to port 9200? We publish that port to the host machine so I think the container fails to start if there is already something running on it.

If opensearch doesn't work, it should only affect the search. Everything else will continue to work.

You can also put COMPOSE_PROFILES=minimal into .env.local. Then it will only start the db, app and worker. Depending on what you want to do, that might be enough.

If you also want to be able to fund your CC wallet, you need to add payments like this:

COMPOSE_PROFILES=minimal,payments

This will then also start all nodes in the local lightning network.

Yes, I can attach the log. I'm not sure if opensearch can bind to port 9200, but I checked and didn't find anything running on it prior to sndev start.

edit: Using COMPOSE_PROFILES=minimal in .env.local works and should be sufficient for what i aim to do, thanks.

Not sure why it doesn't see OPENSEARCH_INITIAL_ADMIN_PASSWORD. We set a default password in .env.development. Did you change this file or override it via .env.local?

edit: Oh this is always printed. I see these messages in my working opensearch setup, too.

Not sure why this would happen. Docker should have made sure it can run. Maybe it's related to Apple M4 Mac OS Sequoia 15.2? I've seen people having issues with Apple silicon and docker. 🤔

Ok, yeah, it's not due to OPENSEARCH_INITIAL_ADMIN_PASSWORD as that's defined in .env.development as expected. Yeah it's probably some incompatibility somewhere with the Apple system. I'll run a minimal build for now but if I ever find a fix for this I'll keep you posted.

Edit: I should mention that I did get it all working on a linux VM (on windows) earlier so, again, it's likely something to do with the Mac OS

Oh, now that I remember, Docker used to emulate (with Rosetta) the Opensearch x86_64 version instead of using directly the arm64 version. Now if you were to force the arm64 you would probably encounter some problems such as changes in the configuration (but I'm not sure of this, I'll try later), for now I'm really glad that you sorted it out ^^
