In GitLab by @DillonJ on Feb 23, 2019, 00:15 This is awesome! So how would one install the Toolbox and have the interface in French, or any other language? Perhaps we could put something in the ReadMe? |

In GitLab by @manuelma on Feb 23, 2019, 01:57 I don't have any experience with this so I just pasted that link for reference, to me it seems there is a decent amount of work involved but we have Qt's support which is great. |

In GitLab by @PekkaSavolainen on Feb 25, 2019, 13:08 It is certainly doable but a lot of work. Converting numbers, dates, and currency is easy and we already use number conversions based on user's computer's locale. The Windows installer can be automatically translated to french by changing a single line. I think we would need to translate the User Guide to French by hand. Changing the actual Toolbox interface to French requires additional code though. However, this might be possible to do in Qt Designer. Not sure since I've never done it. |

In GitLab by @jkiviluo on Feb 25, 2019, 14:41 The interest is great and flattering, but given our resources, we should just ensure that Toolbox allows someone else to do the language support (and give them some technical assistance by updating e.g. a Wiki page on how-to-do-it). |

In GitLab by @DillonJ on Feb 25, 2019, 15:19 It may not actually prevent someone using it, depending on the organisation etc. but it's definitely worth asking the question and ensuring that we do things it a way that makes sure it is possible eventually. |

Hi folks,
At the workshop in Montreal there has been huge interest in using the Spine toolbox. In Quebec, government language rules would disallow public entities to use a tool if it weren't available in French...
So this raises the question of localisation.
Even if we don't feel we can spend resources on this within the project, it would be great if an external contributor wanted to do a translation, that they were able to do this easily.
So, can the toolbox be easily localised? I.e. are labels hard coded or written into language files?
If not, is it worth considering refactoring to allow this in future before the codebase is too large so that contributors can contribute a translation easily? Could even use Google if we had language files...
Thoughts?
