Is it possible to reconfigure this for other sport e.g. rugby? changing rules completely?

The beauty of an open source project is that anyone can download it, copy it, and repurpose it for their own use. That said, it would take a software developer a significant amount of time to repurpose this scoreboard for another sport. It's likely not something that the current maintainers/contributors are going to consider, unless they have personal interest in another sport. Either way, it would likely mean a permanent fork (copying this software and then irreversibly changing it, breaking compatibility between it and the new scoreboard).
