Control without discovery?

Is it possible to control a TV for which discovery does not work? (TV and Homebridge live in different subnets). I could successfully obtain an authentication token with the provided tool. But I cannot see how to "force" the plugin to see a TV it cannot discover (and I didn't see an obvious way by reading the code).
