So far glusto works with python 2 only. Is there a plan to either switch or support python 3 as well?

Yes. The plan is to support Python3 once some additional changes are in, print statements are swapped for logging calls, etc. I'll leave this issue open and ping you when to that next step.

The port is not complete, but there is a branch python3_port1 available for initial testing.
Additional commits are coming to finish anything remaining and tidy up loose ends (including removing debug print statements, adding additional tests, doc updates, and porting .59 and .60 changes). The final branch will be called python3.
