With the development of tree-sitter, pygments highlighting seems a bit outdated.
I was wondering if in future realeases wouldn't be a good idea to try to adapt the package to use tree-sitter instead, or if it'd be too much of a hassle.

If there is ever a minted v3.0, I think it would make sense to allow for the possibility of alternative syntax highlighting engines beyond Pygments. I am currently investigating grant sources to fund the development of minted v3.0. Without funding for v3.0, I expect few if any significant changes in minted in the future.
