We already know about the issues transferring Apple Live photos stored in iCloud to Google photos. This issue is reporting a way that a user can have the same problem in the OPPOSITE direction.
The user (who reported this directly to dtinit.org) has been using Apple devices (iPhone) and backing up their photos to Google Photos. When used in this way, Google Photos is apparently able to do something sensible with Live photos and store them without turning them into static images. However, when the user now wishes to transfer their photos to iCloud, where it seems like their Live photos should be fine, the Live photos are not transferred correctly.
We don't think this is in the process of being fixed right now, and it may not be at the top of anybody's backlog, but it would be good to address when somebody has some cycles.
