SEO audit and improvement of Community site #786
Comments
1) PerformancePerformance is poor. We are failing Web Core Vitals. I am not sure if Osano is blocking scripts properly, as all 3rd party scripts look to be loaded. 2) Missing title and description tagsThe meta tags on the home page should be improved as they are not currently set to anything related to community / events / CNCF. ✅ Individual chapters have an adequate title and description, although this could be improved with the addition of the city, state or country added to the title, and a better description. ✅ Individual events have an adequate title and description 3) Schema✅ Schema for the event pages is structured and passes structured data tests 4) Social ShareThe social share preview image is not the correct size (currently 1080x1080, should be 1200x630) and could be improved. 5) Keyword AnalysisOn the home page, there is an abundance of the words "India" and "United States" due to the multiple listings in those countries. The use of the word "community" "events" "meet-ups" etc is limited. Suggest a h1 + paragraph of text is added that gives an overview of the website and includes those keywords. This text could be towards the end of the page, and perhaps be something like:
6) Homepage H1 tagThe homepage H1 tag is wrapped around "Upcoming events" - so perhaps this should be "upcoming cloud native events" so Google knows that this is what the site is about. suggested: Note: the words "discover upcoming" are inserted via CSS pseudo elements. This is a very strange way to insert text in to a page and is not recommended. 7) Broken Links checkI ran a broken link check, mostly looks OK. This page https://community.cncf.io/kcd-costa-rica/ lists CNCF as a sponsor, but the image seems broken and it links to cncf.com not cncf.io - would be good to get this fixed if possible. OverallEach chapter on the community site ranks well. The home page currently doesn't rank on 1st page for "CNCF events" and its rank could be improved for "CNCF meetups". Both of these things can be achieved with updated title+description meta combined with some focused text added to the home page. |
