Issue was related to the export of the pwm channels via the udev rule.

beagleboard/customizations@6377ab0 is an attempt to fix
To fix this in the future, you should be able to do do:
sudo apt update sudo apt install bb-customizations
Or, to pull in all updates:
sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade
