Reveal somewhere that you can enter a new cell with shift-enter other than on a blank notebook.

How should it be revealed? I don't want to clutter up the UI with info that the user should only need to learn once.

JupyterLab has a Help menu item called "Keyboard shortcuts," which lists all the keyboard shortcuts in a popup window. We could add one of those.

Yes, I think a shortcuts menu is a good idea here.
