Perhaps since audio files are often replaced and not modified, maybe only the date of the upload of the file that's online is necessary. Even in the rare case in which the original audio file is edited and re-uploaded to replace an older version, this might make sense, since in some respects this is "new" file. Note that YouTube does this for videos. They require that the old video be deleted and a new one be uploaded, getting a new URL.
