Compass is a big chunk of functionality, not everyone will want it, and some of it (ahem, linear-gradient) interferes with regular Sass authoring.

This is a tracking ticket to make all the Compass-specific functionality optional.

FYI, Compass is no longer included if you use the new (unreleased) Compiler API.
